Explore the natural beauty of the surroundings!
Just a short walk from our hotel lies a true natural gem – the Mierzeja Sarbska Nature Reserve. It’s the perfect spot for nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, and families looking to relax in the heart of wild nature. The protection of this unique ecosystem is especially important, as this rare geological formation is vulnerable to erosion and degradation.
Discover the Mierzeja Sarbska Nature Reserve
Mierzeja Sarbska is a landscape nature reserve located between the Słowińskie and Kashubian coastal areas. Established in 1976, the reserve covers an area of 546.95 hectares. It forms part of the Natura 2000 protected zone “Mierzeja Sarbska,” officially designated on November 13, 2007, to preserve valuable habitats and species – particularly the coastal Lake Sarbsko and dune-associated habitats, including wet inter-dune depressions.
The reserve spans land managed by the Lębork Forest District and the Maritime Offices in Słupsk and Gdynia. It is overseen by the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Gdańsk. The area includes a narrow stretch of land between the Baltic Sea and Lake Sarbsko, characterized by numerous ridge and parabolic dunes formed by wind and sea activity – some exceeding 20 meters above sea level.
These dunes, along with peat-filled inter-dune hollows, have given rise to a unique vegetation landscape. Here you’ll find heathlands with cross-leaved heath, dense thickets of sweet gale, and crowberry pine forests. The reserve also includes well-preserved patches of birch wetlands, marshy pine forests, alder swamps, and rare deflation hollow vegetation formations unique to the Polish coast. Parts of the dunes are covered by mountain pine – a species introduced here in the early 20th century that has since become characteristic of the Mierzeja Sarbska landscape.
The reserve is home to around 340 species of vascular plants, including many protected ones such as royal fern, peat violet, long-leaved sundew, intermediate sundew, swamp sedge, marsh stitchwort, hare’s-tail cottongrass, and sweet gale. Animal life includes roe deer, hares, foxes, badgers, wild ducks, swans, and white storks. The reserve is also a significant habitat for water and wetland bird species. During spring and autumn migrations, you may spot cormorants, gulls, and herons passing through the area.
Several hiking and cycling trails have been marked out within the reserve, making it easy to explore one of the most beautiful stretches of the Polish coastline. Options include:
Yellow Trail – approx. 5 km through a forest path leading to a beach access and toward Łeba.
Green Trail (difficult) – runs through a forest path along the spit to the beach. From there, you can return via the seashore to Łeba (approx. 12 km), to the parking area at the reserve entrance (approx. 7 km), or to the village of Ulinia (approx. 9.5 km).
Distance from Saltic Resort & SPA to Mierzeja Sarbska Nature Reserve – approx. 1.5 km.
