Czołpino Lighthouse is one of the most secluded lighthouses on the Polish coast. It rises atop a picturesque hill, approximately 1,000 meters from the Baltic Sea shore, surrounded by unspoiled nature.
Located in the heart of Słowiński National Park, between Łeba and Rowy, Czołpino Lighthouse stands out thanks to its unique location – far from any towns or villages, surrounded entirely by wild nature.
This remarkable 25-meter-tall structure is hidden within a dense, untouched forest. A 1.5-kilometre scenic trail leads to the lighthouse, which sits atop a forested dune – one of the highest in the national park – rising 55 meters above sea level.
The walk to the top is not particularly demanding, and the reward is more than worth it: the observation deck offers breathtaking panoramic views of the famous moving dunes, the coastal lakes Łebsko and Gardno, and the spitseparating Lake Łebsko from the Baltic Sea. It’s a place of harmony, serenity, and pure natural beauty.
Czołpino Lighthouse is a unique monument of maritime architecture. It was designed by engineer E. Kummer in 1872. Due to the challenging terrain, all construction materials were delivered by sea on barges. The tower was built from red brick on a solid stone base with a diameter of 9 meters.
Construction took three years and was completed on January 15, 1875. At the foot of the dune, on the southern side, residential and utility buildings were built to house three lighthouse keepers. Originally oil-powered, the lighthouse was only connected to the electric grid in the 1930s.
For many years, access to the lighthouse was restricted due to its proximity to a classified military zone. It was only opened to the public in the 1990s. In 1993–1994, the lighthouse underwent major conservation work to protect the structure from hydrological damage. Thanks to these efforts, the tower remains in excellent technical condition and continues to serve as a navigational aid to this day.
Today, Czołpino Lighthouse is open to visitors and is a popular viewpoint for exploring the stunning landscapes of Słowiński National Park. Be sure to visit nearby attractions such as Czołpino Dune, scenic forests, wide beaches, and the nearby Słowiński Village Museum in Kluki, which showcases the heritage of the region’s former inhabitants.
