The shifting sand dunes, located within the Słowiński National Park between the Baltic Sea and Lake Łebsko, are the undisputed pride and hallmark of Łeba.
The moving dunes near Łeba resemble a real desert and are a fantastic destination for lovers of unique landscapes, scenic walks, and time spent in the heart of nature.
In the distance, you hear the sound of crashing waves and the call of seagulls. Up close, you're surrounded by silence and endless horizons of rising and falling dunes. A walk through the soft white sand, gently dotted with seaside grass, is soothing to the senses and offers true peace of mind. The unforgettable desert-like scenery, together with views of the moving dunes, Lake Łebsko, and the Baltic Sea, will stay with you long after your visit.
The dunes in Słowiński National Park are the largest area of moving dunes in Europe and one of the most fascinating attractions in Łeba. Located on a narrow spit between the Baltic Sea and Lake Łebsko, the dunes move several meters per year under the influence of wind, reaching heights of several dozen meters. Sand movement begins when wind speeds exceed 5 m/s. The landscape changes most dramatically during autumn and spring storms.
The most famous dune is Łącka Dune, also known as Łącka Góra. Covering around 500 hectares and reaching over 40 meters in height (depending on weather conditions), it offers a breathtaking panoramic view. From the top, you can admire the vast desert-like expanse – often called the “Polish Sahara” – along with stunning vistas of Lake Łebsko and the Baltic Sea.
To visit the dunes, head to the village of Rąbka, located about 3 km from the center of Łeba. You can get there by car and park in the designated parking lot. From there, the dunes can be reached on foot, or by electric cart (melex) to the former Rocket Launch Site or directly to the dunes. Note: in high season (July and August), melex rides operate only on the Rąbka–Rocket Launch Site route, leaving about 1.8 km to walk to the dunes.
The walk from the parking area in Rąbka to the moving dunes is around 5.5 km one way, taking approximately 1.5 to 2 hours at a regular pace. Along the way, consider stopping at the Rocket Launch Site Museum, featuring a military exhibition on historic rocket programs conducted in the area. The museum is located about 3 km from the parking lot.
Admission to the Słowiński National Park is required from May 1 to September 30 on selected trails.
