Lake Łebsko is one of Poland's largest lakes, forming a unique part of the landscape within the Słowiński National Park. Its picturesque setting, abundant wildlife, lush vegetation, and breathtaking views make it a place where you can genuinely feel connected with nature.
Lake Łebsko is the third-largest lake in Poland and the largest coastal lake in the Pomeranian region. Its proximity to the Baltic Sea and its connection with the Łeba River create a unique ecosystem that has been protected for years as part of the Słowiński National Park. The lake is surrounded by picturesque forests, peat bogs, and moving sand dunes, which give the area its distinctive character.
Lake Łebsko spans an impressive 71 km², making it vast in size, though relatively shallow – with an average depth of 1.6 m and a maximum depth of 6.3 m. Located near Łeba, within the Słowiński National Park, the lake is considered one of the region’s most valuable natural areas.
It’s a haven for water birds like swans and herons, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. The entire lake is under strict environmental protection, and all unauthorized human activities are heavily regulated to preserve its unique ecosystem.
While the lake attracts many visitors, swimming is only allowed in designated areas due to:
Protected status – the lake lies within a national park with a sensitive ecosystem;
Shallow, muddy bottom – much of the lakebed is soft and silty, making swimming difficult and potentially unsafe;
Unstable conditions – frequent water level changes and strong winds may pose risks to swimmers.
For safe swimming, visitors are encouraged to head to the Baltic Sea, where numerous supervised beaches await – including the popular Łeba beaches.
Water activity on Lake Łebsko is strictly regulated, but the following are permitted:
Sightseeing cruises – during the summer, organized boat tours allow visitors to enjoy the scenic landscapes and observe birds;
Kayaking and rowing – only in designated zones, using muscle-powered small vessels;
Fishing – allowed in marked areas with a valid fishing permit and in accordance with current regulations.
Motorboating, jet skiing, and free sailing are strictly prohibited.
